| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: New mutations: A hemimelic extra toed female appeared in strain B10.D2-New/SnJ in the spring of 1967. Matings with a normal sib have produced 10 abnormal and 12 normal offspring. Outcrosses produced abnormal offspring in the Fl generation, indicating that the mutation is dominant. The only affected portions of the skeleton of the heterozygotes are the limbs and feet. In the forelimbs one or both or neither radius may be foreshortened. Both forefeet invariably have preaxial polydactyly. The tibias are always affected and are either absent or greatly reduced in size. The polydactyly in the hind feet arises as a duplication of the terminal phalanx of either the first or fifth toe. At present no affected males have sired any litters. The suggested symbol for this semi-dominant mutation, called hemimelic extra toes, is Hx. |
