abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research news: 2. Further information on Velvet, Ve. The dominant mutation Velvet, first reported in MNL 31, is completely viable in heterozygous condition but apparently prenatally lethal in homozygotes. Matings of Ve/+ x Ve/+ yielded 121 velvet animals and 72 normals. Fourteen of the former were tested and all were heterozygotes. The combination Ve/+;sa/+ appears velvet. Ve/+;sa/+ x +/+; sa/sa gave 18 satin-or-velvet and 7 wild types. The two genes are therefore not allelic or closely linked. It is not yet known if Ve/+; sa/sa was among the segregants of this cross.
