Allele : Tmevd1<DBA/2J> Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus induced demyelinating disease susceptibility 1; DBA/2J

Primary Identifier  MGI:2678007 Allele Type  QTL
Gene  Tmevd1 Inheritance Mode  Not Specified
Strain of Origin  DBA/2J Is Recombinase  false
Is Wild Type  false
description  This is a susceptibility allele (J:43978). Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus (TMEV) is a normal enteric pathogen in wild and laboratory mice which causes no clinical symptoms unless introduced into the central nervous system (CNS). In the CNS, however, a chronic low-grade infection is established which causes an immune response leading to CNS demyelination. Genetic analysis between susceptible SJL/J and resistant C57BL/6J mice indicated a major role of the H2-D1 region. Between the susceptible SJL/J and resistant BALB/c mice, there does not appear to be an effect of the major histocompatibility complex, but at least two non-H2 loci are involved (J:8573).
