abstractText | Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: LIST OF CHROMOSOME ANOMALIES. This listing, originally prepared by David Papworth and Tony Searle, includes all cytologically visible chromosome anomalies which are kept as separate stocks or frozen embryos. Extinct chromosome anomalies are not listed. Rules for nomenclature of chromosome anomalies are given in Genetic Variants and Strains of the Laboratory Mouse, 2nd ed, edited by Mary F. Lyon and Antony G. Searle. Holders are given the same code as in the Gene List. Anomalies are listed first in alphabetical order of symbols (Del = cytologically visible deletion, Dp = duplication, Hsr = homogeneously staining region, In = inversion, Is = insertion, Ns = tertiary nullisomic, Rb = Robertsonian translocation, T = reciprocal translocation, Tg = transgene, Tp = transposition, Ts = tertiary trisomic), then in order of (longest) chromosome number (but with X coming first). Breakpoints are given in terms of the Nesbitt and Francke (Chromosoma 41:145, 1973), or the Evans (Genetic Variants and Strains of the Laboratory Mouse, 2nd ed, pp576-758) nomenclature, with a range shown where there is uncertainty. The symbols p and q are used when anomalies have breakpoints in the short or long arms respectively. Phenotypic effects are listed as follows: 1. Reduced fertility or complete sterility in the male 2. Homozygous lethality 3. Somatic marker chromosome(s) 4. With phenotypic effect or inseperable from specific locus or loci Unmapped translocations are omitted. Robertsonian translocations with series symbols Bnr, Lub, Mpl, Nam, Rma, Sic or Tu are of feral rather than laboratory origin. An asterisk (*) shows that the holder concerned keeps the anomaly only in frozen state. Any anomaly known to be held by more than six laboratories is described as common. I should be grateful to hear of any errors or omissions, and to have suggestions on how this list could be improved.
