abstractText  Objective To analyze the phenotypes of W-4Bao mouse with Kit gene mutation. Methods Genetic testing was used to observe the phenotypes of the mutative mice and histopathological examinations were used for analysis of melanophore and mast cells. Results The heterozygote (W-4Bao/+ ) mouse has the features of white belly, white limb terminals and white tail tip. There was no significant difference of the number of Dopa(+) melanophore and mast cells in the skin between the W-4Bao/+ and wild type mouse. The homozygote (W-4Bao/4Bao) mouse has the phenotype of black eyes and albino body, except light black hair in limited area of the back and around eyes and auricles. There were nearly no Dopa(+) melanophore and mast cells in the skin of the W-4Bao/4Bao mouse compared with the wild type one. Conclusion The missense mutation of Kit gene leads to deficiency of melanophore and simultaneously influences the development of mast cells in the skin of the W-4Bao/+ mouse and the W-4Bao/4Bao mouse.
