| molecularNote | A bacterial lacZ gene was inserted into the gene such that the endogenous gene promoter drives expression of beta-galactosidase. RT-PCR analysis detects a high level of gene transcript in the lymph nodes, moderate levels in cerebellum, olfactory bulb, spinal cord, Harderian glands, lung, liver, pancreas, skin, urinary bladder, pituitary gland, adrenal gland, tongue, stomach, small intestine, epididymis, coagulating gland, prostate gland, ovary and uterus and low levels in whole brain, cortex, subcortical region, brainstem, eye, heart, kidney, spleen, thymus, bone marrow, gallbladder, salivary gland, large intestine, cecum, testis, seminal vesicle and white fat. Beta-galactosidase expression from this allele is detectable only in brain. In the whole mount brain, moderate staining was observed in the thalamus and cerebellum with weak staining in the brainstem. On coronal sections, faint expression was detected in a few cells in the Purkinje cell layer of the cerebellum. |
