| molecularNote | A bacterial lacZ gene was inserted into the gene such that the endogenous gene promoter drives expression of beta-galactosidase. RT-PCR analysis detects a high level of gene transcript in the whole brain, olfactory bulb, kidney, skeletal muscle and testis and low levels in cortex, subcortical region, cerebellum, brainstem, spinal cord, eye, heart, liver, pancreas, spleen, thymus, lymph nodes, skin, gallbladder, urinary bladder, pituitary gland, adrenal gland, salivary gland, tongue, epididymis, seminal vesicle, coagulating gland, prostate gland, ovary and uterus. Beta-galactosidase expression from this allele is detectable in brain. Strong staining was observed in olfactory bulb. Staining was also observed in regions of hypothalamus and thalamus. On coronal sections of cerebrum, moderate expression was detected in the ventral region of the third ventricle. |
