This vector comprises an enhancerless, promoterless Moloney mouse leukemia (retro)virus genome whose LTR U3 region contains the Ceo fusion gene, which encodes a protein joining the promoterless type II transmembrane and extracellular domains of human CD2 to bacterial neomycin phosphotransferase; the CD2-encoding DNA segment includes a cryptic splice acceptor site. Expression of the endogenous gene is undetectable by northern blot analysis of total brain RNA from homozygous mutant mice. |
