abstractText  The dilute lethal 35 Jackson mutation arose spontaneously in the B6.Cg-Sgsh<mps3a>/PstJ strain at The Jackson Laboratory. Homozygotes have a diluted coat color similar to that of the misty mutation and this is first visible at approximately 1 week of age when the coat begins to come in. Homozygotes are smaller than their normal littermates and display a sprawling ataxia with an inability to right themselves and all die by 5 weeks of age. No homozygote has bred. This mutation was proven to be an allele of Myo5a by a failed complementation test with Myo5a<d-l34J> in which 5 of the 11 pups from a cross of a Myo5a<d-l34J> heterozygote with a Myo5a<d-l35J> heterozygote had the dilute lethal phenotype.
