| molecularNote | A 6 kb promoter-containing region upstream of the translation start codon of the olfactory marker protein gene was used to drive the over- or ectopic expression of the neural cell adhesion molecule 2 gene in olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs). The gene sequence consists of the coding part of the cDNA, where the last 354 bp of sequence (coding region plus 78 bp of 3' UTR) unique to the glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (Gpi) anchor-containing isoform was replaced with 538 bp of 3' coding sequence plus 268 bp of 3' UTR unique to the transmembrane isoform, followed by SV40 poly(A) signal sequence. This transgene overexpresses the gene in OSNs in olfactory receptor zones 2-4 (Z2-4) and ectopically expresses in Z1. |
