molecularNote  The transgene contains the following elements: a neuron-specific enhancers-containing region 6.5-13 kb upstream of the Pomc gene transcription start site with enhancer Rr280 deleted but a modified Rr279 (where the 144 bp core sequence was deleted from the 630 bp region) still present, and the Pomc gene, including 0.8 kb of upstream and 8 kb of downstream sequence, with the EGFP reporter gene and SV40 poly(A) signal sequences inserted upstream of the translation start site. The transgene is not expressed in the hypothalamic arcuate neurons but is expressed in the pituitary gland during embryonic development.
