abstractText  Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 (TIMP2) is a natural inhibitor of several proteinases that are involved in the degradation of the extracellular matrix. By means of somatic cell hybrids segregating human chromosomes, the gene encoding this inhibitor was assigned to human chromosome 17. Fluorescence in situ hybridization confirmed this assignment and allowed mapping of the gene to the terminal region (17q25) of the chromosome.
