abstractText  The interferon-induced dsRNA-activated protein kinase (PRKR) belongs to a subclass of serine/threonine kinases, involved in the regulation of protein synthesis by phosphorylation of the alpha subunit of initiation factor eIF2. Somatic cell hybrids segregating human chromosomes were used to assign this kinase to human chromosome 2. Fluorescence in situ hybridization confirmed this assignment and further localized the gene (PRKR) to the boundary region of bands p21 and 22.
