abstractText  Several new members of the gelsolin family have been discovered in the past year. Determination of the structure of gelsolin and identification of lysophosphatidic acid as a negative regulator provide novel functional insights. Gelsolin is an obligate downstream effector of Rac for motility in dermal fibroblasts, regulates phosphoinositide signaling pathways and ion channel function in vivo, and acts as both a regulator and effector of apoptosis.
