abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News : Stocks "for sale". Would anyone like to have our "J-"stocks? These are the lines selected for large and small litters, and their reproductive physiology might be of interest, particularly the low line. We shall discontinue their maintenance within the next few months. The characteristics of the lines are as follows (the data on embryonic mortality are preliminary and subject to revision): High line (JH): Litter size: 9.2; Ovulation rate: 13.7; Loss: pre-implantation: 21%; post-implantation: 16%; Control line (JC): Litter size: 7.6; Ovulation rate: 8.9; Loss: pre-implantation: 11%; post-implantation: 11%; Low line (JL): Litter size: 6.0; Ovulation rate: 10.3; Loss: pre-implantation: 18%; post-implantation: 31%. The chief point of interest seems to be the high postimplantation mortality in the low line. This mortality is attributable to the mother and not to the embryos, because it is just as high when low line mothers are mated to control males. (Falconer) |
