abstractText  Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: Search for New RFLP Strain Distribution Patterns in BXD Recombinant Inbred Strains. G. Gora-Maslak, D.L. Smith, R. Plomin and G.E. McClearn, Center for Developmental and Health Genetics, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA 16802. As part of the continuing effort to characterize genomic differences within BXD recombinant inbred strains, we are searching for new RFLPs and typing the BXD series. MATERIALS AND METHODS Procedures have been described elsewhere (1). A two- step protocol was employed. First step involved five restriction enzymes. If no polymorphism was detected six additional enzymes were used. DESCRIPTION OF PROBES AND POLYMORPHISMS Probes were obtained from other laboratories. To date 96 probes have been requested, 58 received and 30 used in the hybridization experiments. Nine of the 30 probes demonstrated polymorphism. The polymorphic loci were determined in the set of the 26 BXD RI strains. Two SDPs were novel and 7 were identical to previous SDPs. Here we report the latter SDPs. Shulze (4). Chr: 12; Locus: Igh-V; Probe: Q52; SDP identical to: Igh-V36; Enzyme: EcoRI; Source: D. Shulze (4). Chr: 17; Locus: Tlev1 (H-2); Probe: 5Õ TL.1; SDP identical to: H-2S, T1a; Enzyme: Pst I; Source: C. Pampeno (5). Chr: 17; Locus: H-2, MHC; Probe: pH-2II; SDP identical to: H-2S, T1a; Enzyme: Pst I; Source: L. Hood (6). Chr: 17; Locus: H-2Q; Probe: c-1432; SDP identical to: H-2S, T1a; Enzyme: Pst I; Source: L. Flaherty (7). COMMENTS Probe Rpl 32 represents sequences from Chr 6, but detects multiple bands and a polymorphism on Chr 14.
