abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: In the previous issue of Mouse News Letter (68;71, 1983) we described the structural gene for the mouse salivary protein regulated by Sex-limited saliva pattern (Ssp) and designated it Testosterone controlled protein (Tcp). Since that time we have shown that the protein binds androgen (Karn and Dlouhy, Genetics abstract, in press, 1983). That observation, coup1ed with a conflict in the use of the designation Tcp, has resulted in changing the designation to Androgen binding protein (Abp). Further analyses of our genetic data have shown that SspS influences the electrophoretic mobility of both the A and the B types of Abp. Those analyses also suggest that Ssp and Abp are not closely linked, however, more data are required to determine whether they assort independently. The androgen binding nature of the protein suggests that it may be identical with or related to the low-affinity, high-capacity androgen binding protein identified in ultracentrifugation studies of mouse submaxillary gland extracts (Verhoeven and Wilson, Endocrinol. 99:79, 1976). |
