abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: 2. Salivary protein variant. In the course of typing recombinant inbred (RI) strains for the parotid secretory protein (Psp) a new salivary protein genetic variant was detected, provisionally designated Sal-1. Sal-1 controls the electrophoretic migration of two protein bands that migrate considerably faster than PSP. The more anodal form (SAL-1A) is found in most inbred strains (A/HeJ, AKR/J, AU/SsJ, CBA/J, CBA/CaJ, CBA/H-T6J, C3H/HeJ, C3H/HeSn, C3HeB/FeJ, C57BL/KsJ, C57BL/6J, C57BL/6By, C57BL/l0Sn, C57BR/cdJ, C57L/J, C58/J, FL/1Re, HRS/J, MA/MyJ, PERU/AtteckEi, RF/J, SEC/lReJ, SJL/J, SK/CamEi, ST/bJ, SWR/J, 129/J, and 129/Sv, while the less anodal form (SAL-1B) is found only in DBA/1J, DBA/2J, and NZB/BlNJ. The BXD RI strains were typed for Sal-1, revealing close linkage with Gpi-1 on Chr 7. No recombinants were found between Sal-1 and Gpi-1 among the 26 RI strains. Sal-1 is not identical to Gpi-1 since the distribution of alleles among inbred strains is different. It is not known whether the two protein bands whose electrophoretic migration is under the control of Sal-1 are distinct proteins. (Taylor) |
