abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: Map position of Ce-2. Over the past year we have been screening for recombination between the H-2D locus and Ce-2 (kidney catalase-2) on chromosome 17. The intent of this work was to determine more precisely the map position of Ce-2 and to develop recombinant inbred strains which would be useful in studying the genetic organization of the Tla region. Screening for crossovers was done in the progeny of (B10.D2 x MA/MyJ) F1 females crossed to MA/MyJ males. Among the 325 backcross animals which have been tested, five carry recombinant chromosomes resulting from crossovers between H-2D and Ce-2. Four of the recombinants are H-2.4 positive, Ce-2 slow and one recombinant is H-2.4 negative, Ce-2 fast. In order to preserve the recombinant chromosome, catalase type was tested after surgically removing a single kidney. Survival rate for this operation has been about 98% in our laboratory. Since animals were not sacrificed for testing, it was possible to progeny test the tentative recombinants to confirm the crossover event. Four of the five recombinants have been confirmed by progeny testing, while the fifth recombinant has not yet been tested. These data place the Ce-2 locus 1.5 cM from H-2D. One intra-H2 recombinant which we found during the screening processes places Ce-2 to the right (telomeric) side of the H-2 complex. (Passmore and Ogin). |
