| abstractText | Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: The gene for ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) maps to chromosome 19 of the mouse. K. Kaupmann, M. Sendtner & H. Jockusch. CNTF is a polypeptide that promotes the survival of motoneurones in situ and in culture (Stockli et al., 1989, Nature 342, p. 920-923). Based on the segregation in an interspecific Mus spretus/Mus musculus domesticus backcross (Kaupmann et al. Mouse Genome, this issue), the gene for CNTF, herewith termed Cntf, was found to be linked (1.7 cM +/- 1.7 cM) to Ly-1 on Chr 19 (Cntf: PvuII polymorphism, probe pCMV6 obtained through Dr. P. Masiakowski, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Tarrytown, NY 10591, USA; Ly-1: BamHI polymorphism, probe pMD-10 kindly provided by Dr. L.A. Herzenberg, Stanford University). |
