abstractText | Full text of MNL conribution: Research News: Three Beta-D-galactosidase phemotypes with different tissue activities have been identified among inbred strains of mice. DBA/2J and C3J/HeJ have a 1:2 ratio of enzyme activity in nearly all tissues throughout development. C57BL/6J is also twice the DBA/2J activity in all tissues except liver where the ratio of activity between strains is approximately 4:l. The additional activity in C57BL/6J livers is the result of a specific developmental change in liver at 30 days of age. (DBA x C3H)Fl and (DBA x C57BL)F1 haterozygotes have intermediate activities indicating additive inheritance. In backcrosses and F2s enzime activity segregated as a single gene on chromosome 9 (also reported by Landifi MNL 48, 46). The proposed gene designation is Bgs. The gene order on chromosome 9 is Bgs -- Mod-1 Ð d with estimates of map distances of 14.7 +/- 2.0% for Bgs -- Mod-1 and 7.4 +/- 2.4% for Mod-1 -- d. |
