| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 3. Position of recessive lethal linked to sash, Wsh. The W-allele sash, Wsh, appeared to be homozygous lethal when first found, but a homozygous viable type arose from it, and it was suggested that this was due to loss of a linked recessive lethal (MNL 59: 18). This has now been confirmed by crosses of Wshl++/++go bf x Wshl++/++go bf, where 1 is the putative lethal. Of 483 young from such crosses, 6 were black-eyed whites of the presumed genotype Wshl/Wsh+. One of these died, and the remaining 5 were tested for go and bf. In 4 of the 5 cases loss of the lethal had been accompanied by recombination, so that the animals carried go and bf, their presumed genotype being Wshl++/Wsh+go bf; the fifth tested animal did not carry go or bf. This is considered as evidence in support of the suggestion that the original lethality of Wsh was due to a linked lethal; it also indicated that the lethal is located between Wsh and go, at about 1cM from Wsh. The tested animal which did not carry go or bf may have been a double crossover. (Lyon and Glenister) |
