abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 4. Linkage of Np-2. The nucleoside phosphorylase-2 variant was described as a gene determining an alteration of the electrophoretic pattern of the enzyme in erythrocytes (Bremner et al., Biochem. Genet. 16:1143). I have typed the BXD, BXH, and AKXL RI strains for this marker in an effort to map it. Among 62 RI strains only 10 recombinants were found between Np-2 and esterase-10 (ES-10), which is located on Chr 14 for an estimated RF of 6.8 +/- 2.7%. The structural gene for nucleoside phosphorylase (Np-1) is also on Chr 14, with the RF between Np-1 and Es-10 being approximately 10%. Thus Np-2 and Np-1 may be closely linked. This raises the possibility that Np-2 may actually be a third allele of Np-1 rather than a distinct locus. Associated with the slower migrating minor band characteristic of the Np-2 variant is a more intensely staining major band. (Taylor) |
