abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 3. Esterase-17 on chromosome 9. A further, probably new esterase polymorphism was discovered by isoelectrofocusing. The new esterase, which we designated ES-17, shows a codominant expression in kidney, liver, lung and most other tissues except for hemolysate and serum. It appears to have an especially high level of activity in the first two weeks after birth. Two phenotypes were observed: ES-17A (IEP~pH 5.4) in LP/J (reference strain), M.m. castaneus and M.M. molossinus; ES-17B (IEP~pH 5.9) in AKR/Lac, BALB/c, C57BL/10Sn (reference strain), DBA/2J and Sk/Cam. Es-17 stains well with delta-naphthyl acetate, naphthol-ASD acetate and 5bromoindoxyl acette, but not with delta-naphthyl butyrate. Es-17 is not identical with Es-14. The gene locus Es-17 was found to be located on chromosome 9. Preliminary data suggests a gene order of (centromere) - Es-17 - 11.5 +/- 6.3% - Mpi-1 - 15.4 +/- 7.1% - Mod-1. (J.
