abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: Genes Controlling the Processing of alpha-Mannosidase. We have found two liver-specific electrophoretic polymorphisms for lysosomal alpha-mannosidase which seem to be the result of differences in the extent of sialylation of the lysosomal enzyme. For the first polymorphism, the type strains are CBA/J and C57BL/6J, and the difference is genetically determined by a single locus on chromosome 5, very closely linked to Gus (zero recombinants among 165 chromosomes tested). The locus has been named Map-1 (Mannosidase processing-1) with alleles Map-1<b> and Map-1<n>. For the second polymorphism, the type strains are SM/J and C57BL/6J, and the difference is genetically determined by a single locus closely linked to Ap-1 (Lalley and Shows, submitted). Ap-1 has been shown by Womack and Eicher (unpublished) to map on chromosome 17. The locus has been named Map-2, with alleles Map-2<b> and Map-2<sm>. (Dizik and Elliott) |
