abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: 3. Further characterization of salivary esteroproteases. Electrophoretic variation for at least five salivary proteases (TAM-1, SMG-1, SMG-2, PRT-4, PRT-5) (MNL 61:55, 62:46) maps to the same region of chromosome 7. Using the synthetic substrate, N-acetyl-L-methionine alpha napthyl ester, SMG-1 was shown to be identical with PRT-4 based on electrochemical properties and strain distribution of variants while SMG-2 and PRT-5 were determined to be different proteases. Therefore, a cluster of at least four genes encoding salivary esterproteases resides on chromosome 7 (L. Skow).
