abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: 7. Induction of histidine decarboxylase by throxine. HDC activity is induced 30-40 fold by thyroxine, specifically in the kidney. SWR differs from the other inbred strains; HDC is induced to about 50% of the level attained in C57BL/10 and the kinetics of induction are also altered. Immunoprecipitation with an anti-foetal rat HDC antibody (a gift from Dr T. Watanabe, Osaka Medical School, Japan) shows that enzyme induction in both strains is due to changes in HDC concentration. The variant phenotype segregates in crosses between C57BL/10 and SWR as a single fully recessive gene. We provisionally name this gene hti (HDC-thyroxine-inducibility) with alleles Htib (high-inducibility) and htis (low-inducibility). (Martin, Middleton and Bulfield)
