abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News. 1. Cytogenetic Mapping of the Breakpoints of T(3;4)5Rk. We have mapped the genetic and cytological breakpoints of T(3;4)5Rk, a translocation induced in a DBA/2J male using triethylenemelamine. The breakpoint on chromosome 3 showed 8.0 +/- 2.1 percent recombination with blebs (my) in a two-point backcross with female and male data combined (n = 162). In a four-point backcross using Fl males T5Rk recombined 33.3 +/- 7.9 percent with carbonic anhydrase-2 (Car-2), 5.8 +/- 3.2 per cent with matted (ma), and 30.8 +/- 6.4 per cent with varitint-waddler-J (VaJ) (n = 66). This cross also positioned the breakpoint proximal to ma. Since my is 20 cM proximal to ma, the most likely order is centromere - Car-2 - my - T5Rk breakpoint - ma - Va. The cytological breakpoint is in G-band 3D. This places Car-2 and my proximal to 3D and ma and Va distal. The T5Rk breakpoint in chromosome 4 is very close to brown (b). In a two-point backcross females had no recombination between b and T5Rk (0/90) and males produced two recombinants in 139 progeny (1.4 + 1.0). The combined estimate was 0.9 + 0.6. The cytological breakpoint in chromosome 4 is in 4B2 suggesting the b locus is in or very near this band. (Davisson) |
