abstractText | Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: 2. Further mapping data on extra-toes-spotting, Xs. Previous two-point backcrosses of Xs-p and Xs-cch had shown that Xs is on chromosome 7, and had suggested that it lay proximal to p. (Lyon and Glenister, MNL 83: 158-9, 1989). Multipoint crosses have now been carried out with the loci Gpi-p-c-Xs and indicate that the order is as shown, with Xs located distal to cch. The backcross was of the type Gpib + + Xs/ Gpia p cch + x Gpia p cch +/Gpia p cch +. The data indicated incomplete penetrance of Xs, and this was confirmed by breeding tests of normal-toed animals, some of which proved to be genetically Xs/+. The backcross results were: Gpib + + Xs: 24; Gpia p c +: 38;Gpia + + Xs: 1; Gpib p cch +: 5; Gpia p + Xs: 7; Gpib + cch +: 9; Gpia p cch Xs: 4; Gpib + + +: 15; Gpib p cch Xs: 1. Considering affected Xs offspring only, in view of the incomplete penetrance, the recombination fractions are: Gpi-p; 2/37; Per cent: 5.4 +/- 3.7; p-cch; 7/37; Per cent: 18.9 +/- 6.4; cch-Xs; 5/37; Per cent: 13.5 +/- 5.6. On this interpretation of the gene order one animal was a double crossover resulting from crossovers in the Gpi-p and cch-Xs intervals. (Lyon, Glenister and Ball) |
