| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 5. Crossing-over between the Rw and W loci. In an outcross of a Rw+ T264Ca/+ W<bd>+ male to wild type, one male offspring appeared which showed the phenotype expected if it was Rw W<bd>/++, i.e. not pigmented apart from head and shoulders and perhaps anterior part of trunk region, as in Rw+/+ W<bd>. This male proved fully fertile and hence did not carry T264Ca. On outcrossing it gave 36 Rw W<od>, 41 + and 2 W<bd> progeny, an RF of 2.5%. Since the T264Ca breakpoint is distal to W these results suggest that the order of loci is Cen ... Rw ...W. This confirms the conclusion of Lyon et al. (MNL 68:68), from a study of the W<19H> deletion, that the Rw locus must be proximal to W and Ph. Since no previous recombinants between Rw and W alleles seem to have been reported, even in the presence of T264Ca, these results suggest that crossing-over between these mutants in cis is enhanced over that in trans.
