abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Deletions at the Sl locus. It has previously been reported by Evans et al. (MNL 81, 66, 1988) that the Sl12H mutation involves the deletion of most, if not all, of band 10D1, which amounts to about 10% of the physical length of the chromosome. Giemsa banding has now also shown that Sl18H (Cattanach and Rasberry, MNL 80, 157-158, 1988) involves a deletion in band 10D1 but it is much smaller, only amounting to about 3% of the physical length of the chromosome. The amount of loss may account for the different viability of the two mutations, since the Sl12H homozygote dies at the pre-implantation stage and the Sl18H homozygote dies at the early post-implantation stage. (Evans, Burtenshaw and Cattanach)
