New terminology for the H-2 complex: At the H-2 meeting in Bar Harbor in October 1973 an agreement on the genetic nomenclature for the H-2 complex has been reached. This will be published in one of the early issues of Immunogenetics, a new journal to be edited by Drs. G.D. Snell and J. Klein. The new terminology uses the term haplotype instead of the original term allele for the alternative forms of the whole H-2 gene complex. Four principal regions of the H-2 complex are recognized: K, I, S, and D, carrying the marker loci H-2K, Ir-1, Ss, Slp, and H-2D respectively. The determinants controlling stimulation in mixed lymphocyte cultures are called Lymphocyte activating determinants (LAD). N.B.
