| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Change of Gene Symbol - Ipo - Sod. The enzyme Superoxide dismutase (E.C. No. 1.15.1.1.) is alternatively known as indophenol oxidase. In human genetics the names and symbols Superoxide dismutase (soluble), SOD1, and Superoxide dismutase (mitochondrial), SOD2, are recommended. In the mouse the name and symbol indophenol oxidase, Ipo-1, were first used by Selander et al. (1969, Evolution 23: 379), but more recently Francke and Taggart (1979, PNAS 76: 5230) used Superoxide dismutase, Sod-1, and located the gene to chr. 16. It is recommended that, for reasons of homology, the name and symbol Superoxide dismutase, Sod-1, should be used for the soluble form of this enzyme, and the symbol Ipo-1 be dropped. |
