abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Linkage data: 1. Chromosome 14. Sparse coat (spc) is very close to Rn on Chr 14. In a 3-point backcross, + + Rn/s scp + X s spc +/s spc +, there were no recombinants between spc and Rn in 400 offspring. Rn was not fully penetrant in this cross, but all 34 of the spc+ offspring first classified as Rn+ proved to be Rn when progeny tested and 13 spc offspring proved to be Rn + . Recombination between s and (spc Rn) was 13/183 = 7.10 +/- 1.90% in males and 10/217 = 4.61 +/- 1.42% in females. The difference is not significant. An additional coupling backcross with s and spc produced 14 recombinants in 164 offspring giving a joint estimate of 37/564 = 6.56 +/- 1.04%. A 3-point backcross to locate slaty (slt), + + Rn/s slt + X s slt +/s slt +, gave the following results: Sex of heterozygote: s - slt: Male: 10/205 = 4.88%; female: 1/33 = 3.03%; Both: 11/238 = 4.62%; slt - Rn: Male: 4/205 = 1.95%; female: 1/33 = 3.03%; Both: 5/238 = 2.10%; s - Rn: Male: 14/205 = 6.83%; female: 2/33 = 6.06%; Both: 16/238 = 6.72%. An additional repulsion backcross with s and slt gave 11/154 = 7.14% recombination. Combined with the above, the joint estimate of recombination between s and slt is 22/392 = 5.61 +/- 1.16%. The s - Rn data from this cross combined with that from the 3-point cross with spc gives a joint estimate of 39/638 = 6.11+/- 0.95%. This agrees well with the estimate of 6.56% for s and spc. (M.C. Green and H.0. Sweet)
