abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Polymorphic expression of a mouse liver specific gene. A recombinant plasmid designated pLV54 has been isolated and found to be complementary to an mRNA that is liver specific and developmentally and glucocorticoid regulated. The study of the expression of the corresponding gene, termed RP54, in different inbred mouse strains has shown polymorphic forms of the protein and the mRNA. In vitro translation of liver mRNA from different inbred strains revealed two forms of the protein, differing in molecular weight. Northern blot analysis revealed two different electrophoretic patterns for the pLV54 mRNA. Each polymorphic form of the mRNA and the protein was related to a distinct restriction enzyme digestion pattern of the RP54 gene(s) in these inbred strains. Analysis of the polymorphic forms of the protein and the DNA in BXD recombinant inbred strains of mice led to the mapping of this gene(s) to chromosome 12. At 1.16 +/- 1.21 map units from the prealbumin-1 locus with a single recombinant appearing between these loci in strain BXD-13. Similar analysis of the mRNA polymorphism in 21 strains indicates concordancy with the protein and DNA polymorphism. R.E. Hill, R.K. Barth, and N.D. Hastie).
