abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 2. T39H linkage to wa-1. T(6;?)39H is a complex rearrangement which leads to female semi-sterility and male sterility (MNL 53: 30), with testis weight reduced to about half normal, though a few spermatozoa may be found. Somatic cells have 41 chromosomes, which include a small extra element about the size of a Y chromosome. Meiotic configurations are mainly 19II + III but some chains of five are found also. G-banded preparations show that Chr 6 is involved but it is not known yet what else. Very close associations between the T39H configuration and the sex vesicle suggested X-chromosomal involvement but synaptonemal complex s t u d i e s showed that this was unlikely. Backcrosses of T39H +/+ wa-1 females have given the following progeny:- 30 T39H, 26 wa-1, 4 T39H wa-1, 5 +; total 65. Thus the RF between the T39H breakpoint and wa-1 is 13.8 +/- 4.3%. Another linkage test was attempted with Sig, Lc and Mi<wh>, but only one Sig Lc Mi<wh> +/+ + + T39H female bred, with the following progeny on outcrossing : - 1 Sig Lc Mi<Wh>, 4 T39H, 1 Sig Lc Mi<wh> T39H, 1 Sig T39H, 1 Lc Mi<Wh>; total 8. This suggests that the order is as shown, with T39H distal t o Mi<Wh> and wa-1. (Beechey, CV, E. P. Evans and AG Searle) |
