abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: 4. In a previous report by Key and Hollander (Jour. Heredity 63: 97) unbalanced test cross ratios were noted from matings in linkage group IX. Where the parents were Fu +/+ thf X + thf/+ thf the crossover class Fu thf was much lower in frequency than the class + +. Differential mortality and errors of classification were considered unlikely. The latest tabulation of data from such matings makes the phenomenon more significant: Progeny: From heterozygous males: Fu +: 74; + thf: 88; Fu thf: 7; + +: 27; C.O.%: 18. From heterozygous females: Fu +: 77; + thf: 66; Fu thf: 12; + +: 28; C.O.%: 22. Now some data are also available from the reciprocal testcross mating, Fu thf/ + + X + thf/ + thf: Progeny: From heterozygous males: Fu +: 4; + thf: 9; Fu thf: 15; + +: 11; C.O.%: 33. From heterozygous females: Fu +: 5; + thf: 9; Fu thf: 9; + +: 15; C.O.%: 37. Excess mortality in the double-mutant class seems ruled out; again the crossover class carrying Fu is small. The higher crossover values in this test are surprising.
