abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: The locus of the low ratio allele, Lr, (MNL 40) has now been shown to lie between T and tf. Test crosses of Male T Lr tf/+++ x ++tf/++tf females produced 61 recombinants (Br non-tufted or normal tufted) out of 2370 offspring. This recombination fraction (0.0257) is less than half of the standard value for the T-tf interval in males (0.0674) showing that Lr reduces recombination in this interval. The effect is less marked in T Lr tf , viz. 12/172 = 0.0698 compared to 0.0912 standard in T-tf. In Brachy males which have lost Lr (by recombination) recombination occurs at near the normal frequency: 25/455 = 0.0549. Of 23 recombinants analysed about 4/5 were between T and Lr and 1/5 between Lr and tf. Males T + + produce about 12%of normal-tailed progeny i.e. Lr reduces transmission of the homologue in which it is located, but only in sperm. Effects of Lr on viability when homozygous are now being studied as well as its effects in combination with other ratio-distorters in Linkage group IX. |
