| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: 1. Distribution of Ahd-4 variants among mouse strains. Three variant phenotypes have been observed for mouse stomach aldehyde dehydrogenase (encoded by Ahd-4 - Mather and Holmes, Biochem. Genet. 22 (1984) 981-995). The AHD-4A phenotype (encoded by Ahd-4a) represents the common phenotype among mouse strains, with an isoelectric point (pI) for the major form of 6.5 (extensive sub-banding is seen on agarose-IEF gels - Rout and Holmes, Comp. Biochem. Physiol. 81B (1985) 647-651). The AHD-4B phenotype (encoded by Ahd-4b) exhibits distinct pI values, with the major form having a pI of 6.2. AHD-4B was observed in LIII (a Harwell linkage testing stock) and in SL/NiA (courtesy of Dr. J. Hilgers, Amsterdam). A third, very low activity phenotype (encoded by Ahd-4c) was observed in SWR/J mice (pI = 6.9). (Holmes and Rout) |
