abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Aldehyde Dehydrogenase Isozymes. Inherited electrophoretic variants of the mitochondrial isozyme of aldehyde dehydrogenase (designated ADH-A2) have been observed among 23 inbred strains, linkage testing stocks and translocation stocks. The structural gene locus (designated Ahd-1) is linked to Gpd-1 (10.3 +/- 3.7% recombinants) and je (11.8 +/- 3.9% recombinants) on chromosome 4. Fl (LVC x C57BL/Go) mice showed a codominant allele 3 banded phenotype which suggests a dimeric subunit structure. The anodally migrating supernatant isozyme of ADH was electrophoretically invariant among the strains and stocks examined. Ontogenetic analyses demonstrated that both AHD isozymes exhibited low activity in late foetal and early neonatal liver and kidney extracts and reached adult levels within 3 weeks of birth. (Holmes).
