| abstractText | Full text of Mouse Genome contribution: Research News: Hesitant (hes). The neurological-type mutation hesitant (hes) was mapped to mouse Chromosome (Chr) 10 using the steel (Sl) mutation (Mouse Genome 1991; 89:844). We have now positioned hes on Chr 10 using a three-point cross. The mutant gene downless (Jackson Laboratory allele, dlJ) was selected as a second Chr 10 marker that produces an easily scorable visible phenotype. By constructing stocks with the right combinations of genes, we were able to create mice of the genotype dlJ hes Sl/+ + + to backcross to dlJ hes +/dlJ hes + homozygotes. Combining data from the three-point cross (Table 1) and a repulsion intercross with dlJ (Table 2) with the previously published data (using weighted averages) gave the order and distances: dl - 11.7 +/- 3.3 - hes - 16.1 +/- 1.2 - Sl. These recombination values are consistent with the present dl - Sl distance on the GBASE (1993) map. (H.O. Sweet and Davisson) Table 1.
