Vincek, Z. Zaleska-Rutczynska. Research News: Linkage Map of Chromosome 17. We have used a LINE 1 repetitive sequence probe to isolate 52 anonymous DNA clones from cosmid and phage libraries prepared from a cell line containing the mouse chromosomes 17 and 18. The clones were identified as being derived from chromosome 17 with the help of a cell line that contains all mouse chromosomes except MMU17. The polymorphic clones were mapped with the help of recombinant inbred strains, congenic strains, F2 segregants, and partial t haplotypes. The loci identified by these clones and designated D17Tul through D17Tu52 were found to be distributed over a length of approximately 71 cM, which probably represents the entire length of MMU17. A list of the loci follows. Probes for detecting these loci are available, but those who did not respond to our request for probes need not bother.
