abstractText  Full text of Abstract: Angiotensin-I Converting Enzyme gene is on chromosome 17. (A2475) M-G Mattei1, C Hubert2, F Alhenc-Gelas2, N Roeckel1, P Corvol2, F Soubrier2. 1INSERM U242, Hopital d'enfants de la Timone, 13385 Marseille cedex; 2INSERM U36, 17 rue du Fer a Moulin, 75005 Paris, France. Angiotensin-I Converting Enzyme (ACE) plays an important role in blood pressure regulation and electrolytic balance, by hydrolyzing angiotensin I into angiotensin II, a potent vasopressor and aldosterone stimulating peptide. This enzyme is also able to inactivate bradykinin, a potent vasodilator. ACE is a widely distributed metallopeptidase. A cDNA clone (pB35-19), bearing the major part of the human ACE mRNA was used to map the gene by in situ hybridization. The gene is assigned on chromosome 17 in 17q23 band.
