abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: The histology of the interstitia1 tissue was studied in the testes of inbred KE and KP males, of reduced fertility, and in the testes of highly fertile Outbred mice as a control. Definite differences were found between the strains with respect to both the number and morphology of Leydig cells. Strain KP had much more interstitial tissue than the control but it was composed predominantly of degenerated D type cells, deprived of secretory function. However, the number of cells which are active in the production of hormones did not differ from the normal level. In the KE strain the number of active cells was reduced which could contribute to the decreased fertility of KE males. Histochemical methods also revealed differences between the strains. (B.
