abstractText  In view of the apparent rarity of X/X, X/O mosaics (L.B. Russell 1962, Progr. in Med. Genet. 2:230, B.M. Cattanach 1967 Cytogenetics 6:67) it seems worth reporting that the female progenitor of the X/O line now maintained at the Jackson Laboratory was a Ta+/+Bn, Ta+/O mosaic. She was the offspring of a Mo+/+Ta X Bn/Y cross and looked like a Ta/O non-Bn female except for faint transverse striping across the rump. When mated to a wild type male she produced some Bn sons. Seven of her apparently wild type daughters were mated with Ta/Y males. Four transmitted Bn and apparently were +/Bn, one produced Ta/O daughters and was apparently +/O, and the other two were not conclusively tested. The original female was apparently both a somatic and a gonadal mosaic.
