Protein Coding Gene : Epha3 Eph receptor A3

Primary Identifier  MGI:99612 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  16 NCBI Gene Number  13837
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables ephrin receptor activity and growth factor binding activity. Involved in several processes, including axonal fasciculation; ephrin receptor signaling pathway; and synaptic membrane adhesion. Acts upstream of or within cellular response to follicle-stimulating hormone stimulus; negative regulation of neuron projection development; and regulation of cell migration. Is active in GABA-ergic synapse and presynapse. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; embryo mesenchyme; genitourinary system; nervous system; and sensory organ. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in pancreatic cancer. Orthologous to human EPHA3 (EPH receptor A3).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for disruptions in this gene usually die within 48 hours of birth of cardiac failure. Survivors develop normally with no indications of cardiac abnormalities. [provided by MGI curators]
