PHENOTYPE: Aged mice homozygous for a null allele develop tumors in various organs at an accelerated rate while mouse embryonic fibroblasts are hypersensitive to the induction of HIF-1alpha under hypoxic conditions or by nickel and cobalt ion treatments.
