Protein Coding Gene : Vil1 villin 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:98930 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  1 NCBI Gene Number  22349
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables cysteine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity involved in apoptotic process. Involved in several processes, including cellular response to hepatocyte growth factor stimulus; intestinal D-glucose absorption; and regulation of plasma membrane bounded cell projection organization. Located in several cellular components, including brush border; filopodium tip; and lamellipodium. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; egg cylinder; metanephros; and reproductive system. Orthologous to human VIL1 (villin 1).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous null mutants do not exhibit gross abnormalities or apparent defects of microvilli morphogenesis, however in one line, an increased sensitivity to colitis induced by dextran sulfate was observed. [provided by MGI curators]
