Protein Coding Gene : Nav1 neuron navigator 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:2183683 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  1 NCBI Gene Number  215690
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 9.1.0)

Acts upstream of or within microtubule bundle formation and neuron migration. Located in axon initial segment and microtubule cytoskeleton. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; embryo mesenchyme; molar; peripheral nervous system ganglion; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human NAV1 (neuron navigator 1).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele show increased voluntary cocaine intake, increased motivation for cocaine consumption and food reinforcement, reduced inhibitory synapse density in the prefrontal cortex, increased excitatory synaptic transmission in the cortex and hippocampus, reduced anxiety-like behavior, and defects in spatial learning and memory.
