Protein Coding Gene : Sgk1 serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:1340062 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  10 NCBI Gene Number  20393
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 8.0.0)

Enables protein kinase activity. Acts upstream of or within DNA damage response; cellular response to aldosterone; and protein phosphorylation. Predicted to be located in cytosol; nuclear speck; and perinuclear region of cytoplasm. Predicted to be active in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including brain; cardiovascular system; eye; limb interdigital region mesenchyme; and respiratory system. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in hypertension. Orthologous to human SGK1 (serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous knockout results in reduced sensitivity to hypoxia-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension, inflammation and cardiac ventricular hypertrophy. But otherwise mice display an essentially normal phenotype. Sodium retention is compromised on a low salt diet. [provided by MGI curators]
